Fair use policy

What "unlimited" means on our hosting, and how we keep the servers fast for everyone.

Why we have this policy

Our hosting runs on shared servers. Every website on a server shares its processing power, memory and network. This policy makes sure one account can't slow things down for everyone else.

What "unlimited traffic" means

We don't set a monthly cap on the data your website sends to visitors, and we don't charge extra when your traffic grows. This applies to normal use: a business, organisation or personal website, and its email.

Unlimited traffic doesn't mean unlimited server resources. Your plan's storage, websites, databases and email accounts have the limits shown on the order page.

What counts as normal use

Most websites never come close to the limits of fair use. Things that fall outside it include:

  • Using the account mainly to store or share large files, such as backups, video or software downloads.
  • Streaming audio or video from the account.
  • Sending bulk or unsolicited email.
  • Running scripts or processes that use a large share of the server's processor or memory for long periods.
  • Anything that breaks South African law or our terms of service.

What we do if an account goes beyond fair use

We contact you first. We'll explain what we've seen and help you fix it. That might mean optimising the website, moving large files elsewhere, or moving to a plan or server that fits better.

If an account puts the server or other customers at risk, we may limit or suspend it straight away to protect the service. We'll let you know when we do, and why.

Questions

If you're not sure whether your website fits within fair use, ask us before you order. Email [email protected] or call +27 87 654 8810.
